The European Investment Fund (EIF) is seeking to recruit for its Resource Planning Division - Management Information and Analysis Unit, at its headquarters in Luxembourg, a Trainee - Management Information & Analysis.

Specific Post Environment: The EIF (European Investment Fund) is a specialist provider of risk finance to benefit small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Europe. The Management Information and Analysis (MIA) team within EIFs Chief Investment Office is responsible for collecting, analysing, and reporting data that supports decision-making processes. It ensures that accurate and timely information is available to management, enabling them to make informed decisions that drive the organization towards its strategic goals. They work closely with various departments to gather data, identify trends, and generate insights that can improve operational efficiency and effectiveness. Additionally, the MIA team plays a key role in developing and maintaining data management systems, ensuring data integrity, and providing training and support to staff on data-related issues.

Overall objective

Your overall objective will be to:

  • Support the provision of data-driven insights to management for strategic decision-making
  • Assist in the development and scaling up of dashboards to monitor corporate and mandate-related activities
  • Contribute to the preparation and reporting of activity reports and key performance indicators (KPIs)
  • Participate in the development of advanced planning and monitoring data models
  • Ensure that planning tools remain aligned with strategic objectives
  • Collaborate with technical teams and data scientists in the implementation of AI/ML solutions

Responsibilities

Under the guidance of the head of unit and a senior member of the team, you shall:

  • Actively participate in the planning, execution, and review phases of the Year-End Closing Exercise Project, acquiring a comprehensive understanding of project objectives, deliverables, and timelines
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of project outputs, ensuring tasks are completed in accordance with established quality standards and deadlines
  • Support the validation and reconciliation of year-end data, collaborating with team members to ensure accuracy and consistency in project deliverables
  • Assist in the documentation of project processes and outcomes, maintaining clear and up-to-date records to support project transparency and knowledge transfer
  • Engage in ongoing continuous improvement projects within the unit, with a focus on enhancing reporting solutions, end-to-end process redesign, and workflow optimization
  • Participate in the automation and streamlining of reporting processes, utilizing tools such as Alteryx and Tableau to design, test, and validate innovative solutions
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancement within the unit, proposing and supporting the implementation of improvements in collaboration with the project team
  • Contribute to the development and revision of user guides and technical documentation, ensuring that all changes and improvements are accurately reflected and accessible to stakeholders

Expected outcome:

  • Deliver the final version of updated Alteryx workflows and Tableau dashboard in the context of the year-end exercise
  • Prepare outputs (reports, dashboards) to address the various year-end data request

Qualifications

  • University degree in Business Administration, International Business, European Studies, Economic Studies, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or similar
  • Sufficient knowledge and understanding of EIF mission, activities and market in which EIF operates
  • Fluency in common IT tools (MS Excel, Word & PowerPoint)
  • Any familiarity with data processing and visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, SAP Business Objects, or similar)

Competencies

  • Good drafting, analysis and synthesis skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Excellent written and spoken English. Knowledge of other EU languages would be considered an advantage
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, multitask, self-organize and meet strict deadlines, while at the same time delivering high-quality results
  • Ability to discriminate between taking initiative and working autonomously under given objectives vs. seeking for guidance or approval by team hierarchy
