The EIB, the European Union’s bank, is seeking to recruit for its Secretariat General (SG) – EIB Institute Department (EIBI) – Knowledge & Impact Division (K&I), at its headquarters in Luxembourg: TRAINEE

Duration: 5 months (fixed start date: 1st September 2025)

Objective of the traineeship

As a Trainee under the supervision of the EIB Institute Director and the Head of Knowledge and Impact Division, you will contribute to various tasks related to the preparation and timely delivery of:

  • The cooperation platform with European Foundations
  • Foresight events and activities related to human and community centered disaster preparedness
  • The implementation of the Empowering Equity Academy 2025.

You will also interact with a wide array of EIB Group colleagues in the context of the different knowledge and innovation sharing activities organised by the EIB Institute.

SPECIFIC POST ENVIRONMENT

The EIB Institute (or EIBI) was set up within the EIB Group (the EIB and the European Investment Fund or EIF) as the philanthropic arm of the EIB to promote and support education, social economy, and culture through initiatives in cooperation with European stakeholders to back the integration of the EIB Group’s impact at all levels. The Institute strives to create a more inclusive society, enhance knowledge, innovation, and competitiveness, and it ensures cohesion across Europe. The EIBI aligns with the wider strategy of the EIB Group.

The EIBI has established a network of European philanthropies championed by the EIBI, is annually running the Empowering Equity Academy in collaboration with the EIF and focuses on foresight centric events. The network of philanthropies aims to encourage cooperation, the Empowering Equity Academy aims to bridge the gap for STEM and sustainability students in the equity investment space while the foresight events focus (but are not limited to) supporting human and community centred disaster preparedness.

Responsibilities

Taking into consideration the wide set of initiatives that the EIB Institute envisages, you will support the team with the establishment of the cooperation platform for European Foundations, Foresight activities and the implementation of the Empowering Equity Academy 2025. You will actively contribute to the following activities under close supervision of seasoned EIB colleagues:

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the cooperation platform with European foundations.
  • The maintenance and extension of EIBI’s repository of European foundations and their activities
  • The organisation of and contribution to information events/webinars with foundations on different themes (e.g., climate, gender focus etc.)
  • The interaction with European foundations and different parts of the EIB Group for the development of collaboration models and instruments for the EIB Institute, EIF and EIB at large.
  • Supporting the organisation of three key upcoming events:
    • The international preparedness investment and community resilience foresight event (the continuation of Know Your Hazard)
    • Internal personal and community preparedness event for EIBG staff
    • The launch event of our youth-focused disaster preparedness programme in Luxembourg
  • Contribute to research, communications, and logistics related to our human- and community-centred disaster preparedness activities.
  • Support the coordination of all logistics, resources, and timelines for the Empowering Equity Academy 2025.

Academic qualifications and professional skills

  • Final year of studies or University degree in Communications, Policy Economics, International relations, Business or related fields.
  • Ease in interaction with internal and external counterparts (e-mail, phone and in-person communication)
  • Some experience (at student level is also acceptable) with event management and volunteering.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint especially)
  • Knowledge of design tools such as Canva, Adobe InDesign would be an added value
  • Strong interest in educational and innovation programmes, multimedia tools and production (basic video editing, simple graphic design and audio recording)
  • Understanding of the EIB and EIF mission and activities as well as the operating and political framework in which the Bank operates, including EU affairs will be considered an important asset.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, other EU languages would be an asset.
