Background / General description The purpose of GSDTI is to facilitate the World Bank Group’s communications with its member governments, with a wide range of institutions, civil society associations, nongovernmental organizations, and other entities, by providing translation and conference interpretation services. GSDTI is seeking applications from suitable qualified candidates for a staff position of Francophone Translator (English to French) at its Translation Hub in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The successful candidate will contribute to the French translation program, one of five in-house translation programs (Arabic, English, French, Russian, and Spanish) and will report to the GSDTI Business Manager. The French Translation Team handles requests for the translation of documents from English to French, as well as requests for the editing of documents drafted in French.

Duties and Accountabilities • Produces self-revised translations, primarily from English to French of a wide range of World Bank documents, ensuring their accuracy, completeness, consistency, stylistic acceptability, and on-schedule delivery. • Prepares translations, often of a sensitive or confidential nature and frequently on short notice. • Researches each source document thoroughly using fully translation aid tools and systems available in order to ensure that the appropriate specialized terminology is employed. • Coordinates closely with the workflow coordinator and translators/revisers to ensure timely processing of work, compliance with deadlines, and correct use of terminology in translations. • Organizes own program of work and reports to supervisor. • Pays particular attention to keeping computer and information technology skills up to date, and to remaining abreast of general developments in the translation/interpretation field, including and changes in Bank terminology. • Performs other duties necessary to ensure the smooth functioning of the French Team.
