Project Background
EGA is a five-year activity (2020-2025) funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as part of the bilateral agreement between the Government of Egypt (GoE) and the United States. This project, which is implemented by DAI Global LLC, will support the investment climate in Egypt through enhancing economic governance, and promoting administrative and institutional development in line with Egypt’s Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS) 2030; National Anti-Corruption Strategy 2019-2022; and the Administrative Reform Vision of Egypt. In doing so, the project supports the efforts of the GoE to enhance the quality of public administration, through adopting more inclusive and efficient tools that ensure the needs and priorities of citizens, and the private sector are reflected; thus promoting a positive investment climate in Egypt.
Purpose
DAI seeks a Translator/Interpreter for the recently awarded Egypt Economic Governance Activity (EGA). EGA will work with USAID/Egypt and the Government of Egypt to support the country’s investment climate by strengthening inclusive governance and supporting the Government’s structural reform program. This exciting cross-sector engagement will support Egypt’s economic and good governance reforms by supporting the reform process, building the capacity in public administration, including rolling out anticorruption training across the government at all levels of the civil service, and improving local service delivery, with an emphasis on innovative e-governance.
The Translator/Interpreter (T/I) will interpret oral communication and translate written communication, reports, documentations from and into Arabic and English. He/she will translate written correspondence and facilitate interviews and other forms of oral communication between the project staff and their counterparts. The Translator/Interpret will report to the Director of Finance and Operations.
Tasks/Responsibilities:
• Translate accurately and concisely documents and other materials from English to Arabic and from Arabic to English for the purpose of providing translation and interpretation for the project staff and their counterparts.
• Translate written correspondence from Arabic into English and from English into Arabic.
Correspondence includes but is not limited to reports, letters, memorandum, emails, pamphlets,
agreements, advertisements, and training material.
• Interpret oral communication from Arabic into English and from English to Arabic. Types of oral communication include but are not limited to, meetings, workshops, conferences, telephone
calls and messages, in-person interviews, and community forums.
• Accompany project English-speaking staff in field visits to partner institutions to facilitate communication.
• Serve as an interpreter for a variety of functions (e.g., virtual, and in-person meetings,
workshops, conferences, special events, etc.) for the purpose of providing interpretation for the project staff and their counterparts.
• Read and rewrite material in a second language for the purpose of providing materials in a
second language following established rules related to factors such as word meaning, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
• Prepare written translations for duplication for the purpose of providing materials in Arabic and
English as needed.
• Operate a variety of office equipment including a copier, typewriter, computer and assigned software; operate translating equipment.
• Perform several other similar or related duties which may not be specifically included within this
position description, but which are consistent with the general level of the job and the responsibilities described.
Qualifications
• A minimum of 8 years of interpretation and translation experience.
• Perfect command of both English and Arabic languages (written and spoken).
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
• Excellent proofreading skills with the ability to identify grammar, spelling and punctuation errors
• BSc in English language, Translation, Interpreting or similar field
• Additional certification in Linguistics is a plus
• Knowledge of translation and interpretation techniques
• Ability to manage work schedules to meet deadlines.
• Must be detailed oriented, self-motivated and able to multi-task.
• Ability to effectively work and communicate with project staff and counterparts.
• Time-management skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with others
