Job Description
Summary:
Reporting to the CEO, the VP Technology and Innovation will oversee the organization’s technology, network digital innovation and digital security strategy. Managing a growing team of passionate, collaborative, entrepreneurial technologists, this technical VP will lead the identification, development, and maintaince the Vital Voices technology and technological resources including the Vital Voices Innovation Lab, online network hub, vitalvoices.com, and other technology infrastructure with a focus on developing and improving Vital Voices technology resources to support the Vital Voices network programming and support. This individual will sit on the Vital Voices Senior Leadership team and serve as a subject matter expert and strategist for our growing organization. As a small organization with national prominence, we’re looking for someone with the ability to be both a strategist and individual contributor in areas ranging from system administration to product development.
Senior Leadership Team Responsibilities
- The VP, will serve as a critical member of the Vital Voices Senior Leadership Team:
- Embrace and Model the Vital Voices guiding principles, values, investment and leadership models with the goal of supporting Vital Voices organizational culture and success.
- Participate as a member of the Senior Leadership team providing performance management, guidance, coaching, collaboration, and support to Vital Voices employees across cross-functional matrix teams.
- Oversight of all Technology & Innovation team members.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Support the CEO and COO in effectively communicating the organization’s technological goals and milestones.
- Manage the Vital Voices Innovation Lab, including recruiting new members and organizing Lab project cycles.
- Build Vital Voices network of partners in the technology sector.
- Support fundraising efforts to meet the organization’s technological needs and identify opportunities to empower women leaders in technology
- Responsible for identifying and implementing the organization’s technology strategies and ensuring that technological resources are aligned with the organization’s short-term and long-term needs.
- Oversee the product development of the Vital Voices Community Hub and Digital Headquarters and network hub to connect, support and scale our programs, network and reach.
- Manage external contractors and consultants as it relates to software development and deployment.
- Communicate technology strategy to team, funders, Board members, and network members.
- Implement program improvements to reduce technology costs and increase efficiency.
- Build data science capacity of Vital Voices and monitor analytics for VV platforms (such as the Website and Hub) to assess technical performance, user experience, and implement improvements.
- Enhance and enforce digital security and data protection processes.
- Stay informed of new trends and best practices in the technology landscape to ensure the organization is continuously innovating its technological offerings.

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a technical field (e.g. Computer Science, Math, or similar). Graduate degree preferred; or equivalent practical experience.
- 7-10 years of experience leading technology teams, including building/scaling products with a focus on user experience.
- Experience coding in one or more of the following languages: Java, Python, Go, JavaScript, C++, Bash, PowerShell.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and work in a dynamic team environment with tight deadlines, sometimes under difficult or challenging circumstances;
- Demonstrated cultural sensitivity and self-awareness; problem solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work effectively in a regional team environment and work closely and communicate clearly with all offices, departments, and affiliates;
- Strong computer skills including MS Office applications (esp. Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), social networking tools, and database software (i.e. Salesforce).
- Demonstrated ability to adapt your message to the technical level of the audience and comfort presenting technical materials to groups of any size and background.
- Experience attracting talent and recruiting leaders, externally and internally.
