The Vice President of Vaccine Acceptance and Demand will work with the President of Global Immunization to design the strategy for Sabin’s new Vaccine Acceptance and Demand initiative and be responsible for operational and programmatic oversight. The initiative consists of three interrelated work streams: Immunization Advocates, Vaccine Acceptance and Social Media. The Vice President will integrate these work streams and respective staff, supervise program leads and integrate these activities with other Sabin programs. Immunization Advocates is focused on communicating the importance of immunization and dispelling vaccine misinformation by supporting media and health care professionals. Sabin’s Vaccine Acceptance programming applies interdisciplinary problem-solving to address challenges to vaccine acceptance, including the Small Grants Program and the Vaccination Acceptance Research Network. Social Media will focus on the intersection of immunization programs and social media research. The Vice President will interface directly with the funder (lead monthly meetings, annual grant reporting and on-going communication), as well as global health organizations such as WHO, Gavi and UNICEF. The incumbent will have professional experience in public health issues, preferably global health and/or immunization programs, strong project management and people management skills, and be highly experienced in developing and maintaining strong partnerships. Business development experience is preferred.
Responsibilities:
Initiative and Operations Management
• Work closely with the President of Global Immunization to design and implement initiative strategy; prioritize issues effectively/efficiently for President’s input and review
• Lead all aspects of Sabin’s Vaccine Acceptance and Demand initiative, including oversight of three direct reports and ensuring that initiative deliverables are on time and within budget; additional supervisory responsibilities may be added
• Supervise, mentor, coach and train Vaccine Acceptance and Demand Team members
• Drive long-term strategic planning to evaluate and refine initiative and partnership models to ensure achievement of desired impact, growth, scale and sustainability
• In close coordination with Vaccine Acceptance and Demand program leads, the Accounting and Resource Development Teams: manage contracts and grants; monitor budget expenditures; prepare budget revisions; provide interim status reports; and oversee, coordinate and/or assist with proposal writing to develop additional funding
• Assist the Communications Team in developing and communicating in various media such as print and video; and assist in developing advocacy and technical materials, handouts and brochures as needed
• Work to integrate programming across Vaccine Acceptance and Demand work streams, and with other Sabin programs, including Boost
• Other related duties, as assigned
Collaboration/Partner Management
• Serve as the funder’s primary project management contact and ensure consistent, quality communications
• Report deliverables to funders
• Identify and manage outside subcontractors and consultants, as appropriate
• Work with global health/global immunization partners
• Accompany Sabin executives to key meetings as required; assess opportunities to deepen and expand relationships with existing donors and partner organizations
• Identify new funders and business development opportunities
• Represent Sabin and promote its mission at events and meetings
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree preferred
• 16+ years relevant experience, preferably with a focus on global health, public health or other related field
• Excellent project management skills
• Skilled at strategic and operational planning, partner and stakeholder management, critical thinking and analysis, and cross-functional leadership
• Proven ability to move a strategy into a plan and execute against goals and timelines
• Demonstrated success in ongoing interaction and relationship building with donors and partners
• Proven ability to manage, mentor and coach people; able to build relationships and understand what motivates others
• Proven ability to manage “up” and effectively and efficiently communicate with executives, including when executive is traveling
• Budget oversight and decision making experience; ability to recognize risks and skilled at contingency planning
• Problem-solver; proactively identify solutions
• Established partnership and networking connections
• Excellent verbal and written communicator with ability to tailor approach toward the perspective of others
• Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels, including Boards of Trustees, coalition partners, staff and organizational contacts; excellent at working closely with others over geographical distance
• Demonstrated ability to operate with purpose, urgency and accuracy in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
• Strong attention to detail, ability to manage complex tasks, highly organized, flexible, dependable and able to prioritize competing demands in order to meet deadlines
• Must demonstrate interest in furthering Sabin’s mission
• Limited travel, but ability to travel with notice
