The Pragma Corporation, an international development consulting company, is seeking to hire a Senior WTO/ Trade Specialist for Central Asia, based in Uzbekistan.
Job Description: The Senior WTO/Trade Specialist will provide technical leadership for WTO accession support to the governments of Kazakhstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, and post accession support in Kyrgyzstan. In addition, the Specialist will provide support for other trade policy and facilitation activities to countries outlined in the project's scope: Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan.
The post for the WTO/Trade Specialist is Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where the specialist will manage activities in Uzbekistan to help the country take the required steps toward WTO membership, develop unified strategies on accession, and provide assistance for WTO-related legal reform and training. In addition, the WTO Specialist will work with WTO teams in Kazakhstan and Tajikistan to do the same. In Kyrgyzstan, focus will primarily be placed on issues of WTO compliance.
The WTO/Trade Specialist will coordinate closely with the country managers and other long-term advisors supporting transit and transport, customs, standards, and reduction of investment constraints assistance.
The WTO/Trade Specialist will provide technical training and leadership to local legal and economic specialists, and short-term consultants.
Requirements: Advanced degree in Economics or Law; Seven to ten years experience in trade and WTO related matters. Demonstrated knowledge of WTO accession requirements and understanding of the accession process. Experience in Eastern Europe and/or former Soviet Union desirable. Russian language skills would be helpful.
