The African Development Bank has secured some €45 million ($59.3 million) in pledges for two initiatives to improve the water and sanitation situation in the region.
France pledged €40 million to AfDB’s Rural Water and Sanitation Initiative, which aims to increase access to water and improve sanitation in rural African communities. Chad committed $1 million to the same initiative, while the Republic of Congo promised $5 million for the African Water Facility, which backs investments in water infrastructure projects in the region.
The pledges were announced at an AfDB-hosted conference held on the sidelines of the World Water Forum in Marseilles, France.
