International nonprofit ActionAid has accused London-based mining firm Vedanta Resources of violating the rights of tribes people in the the Indian state of Orissa, who were opposed to mining operations in their land, the Press Trust of India reports.
Amid Vedanta’s repeated denials of any abuse in its Indian mining operations, ActionAid also criticized the Indian government for failing to act on the firm’s reported human rights abuses in Orissa’s tribal villages. Several Vedanta investors have sold their stocks over the firm’s alleged human rights abuses.
