The Asian Development Bank will grant USD1.2 million to help prepare a water and sanitation project in urban communities outside the Philippines’ main urban hub Metro Manila. “The project is expected to help bring the country closer towards achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) target of halving by 2015 the proportion of people without sustainable access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation,” said Rudolf Frauendorfer, senior urban development specialist of ADB’s Southeast Asia department. Australia, Austria, and Norway are contributing to the said fund. (“ADB Helping Prepare Urban Water Supply Project for Philippines” - Asian Development Bank, Oct. 15, 2008)
