The African Development Bank has awarded XOF2.5 billion ($5.1 million) in financial aid to help the government of Niger in its decentralization efforts. According to AfDB Representative Serge N’Guessan, the funding will be used for capacity building for stakeholders in the process. Niger has 265 communes, which continue to struggle with poor governance, tax evasion, understaffing, and funds disbursement.
