Afghanistan’s top diplomat, Rangin Dadfar Spanta, made it known that his country will call on donors in a meeting in Paris to channel more aid money to the government. The Afghan leadership faces an unsettling position, as citizens have accused authorities of misusing billions of dollars in aid earmarked for post-war reconstruction projects. “At the Paris Conference we would call on the international community to spend its aid through the budget of the government of Afghanistan,” said Spanta, and added that in recent years, only a paltry sum of international funding was spent through the government. “We are sure that the international community once again renews its commitment for the reconstruction of Afghanistan and war on terror at Paris Conference,” he added.
