His Excellency João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço is the president of Angola. He was elected president in 2017 and reelected in 2022. Since assuming office, he has been widely recognized for advancing a reform agenda focused on good governance, anti-corruption, economic diversification, and public-sector efficiency. His administration has prioritized reducing Angola’s dependence on oil, strengthening public financial management, and restoring international confidence in the country’s institutions. He also currently serves as the chair of the African Union. Lourenço is regarded as a key African leader driving reform, institutional renewal, and a more assertive and principled African engagement on the global stage.
