Guy le Fanu is the global technical lead for education at Sightsavers. He oversees Sightsavers’ education projects for children with disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa, India, and South Asia. After teaching in special needs and comprehensive schools in the U.K., Guy worked as an education advisor for six years in Papua New Guinea, and four years in Bangladesh for a number of international development agencies.
Without immediate support both during and following school lockdowns, many children with disabilities may miss out entirely or never return to school. This op-ed outlines five recommendations to help ensure these children have equal access to education.
