Dr. Jeremiah Chakaya

Dr. Jeremiah Chakaya

Dr. Jeremiah Chakaya is a founding member of the Respiratory Society of Kenya, orReSoK, and serves on the executive committee of the Pan African Thoracic Society. He is a professor of global respiratory health at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and a technical expert for the Kenyan national TB program. He has held several key international roles, including vice chair of the Stop TB Partnership coordinating board, chair of WHO's STAG-TB, and president of the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease. He also holds an honorary teaching position at Kenyatta University.

Dr. Jessica Smith is the research and policy manager at the Georgetown Institute for Women, Peace and Security. She completed her PhD at the School for Conflict Analysis and Resolution at George Mason University.

Dr. Joanne Liu is a Canadian practicing pediatric emergency physician and professor at McGill University’s School of Population & Global Health where she focuses on pandemic and health emergencies. Prior to joining McGill, she was the international president of Médecins Sans Frontières for over six years from 2013 to 2019.
Dr. John Murton

Dr. John Murton

John Murton is Standard Chartered Bank’s senior sustainability adviser and leads its work on the development of blended finance programs, including the Vietnam and Indonesia Just Energy Transition Partnerships. Previously he spent three years as the U.K. government’s COP 26 envoy, where he led negotiations for the international community on the South African and Vietnamese JETPs. He previously served as the U.K.s ambassador to six African nations and headed the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office’s East Asia and Pacific department. He has also been the U.K.’s permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Programme.
Dr. John Nkengasong

Dr. John Nkengasong

Dr. John Nkengasong, born in Douala, Cameroon, serves as the first director of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention. He is a leading virologist with nearly 30 years of work experience in public health. Prior to his appointment at Africa CDC, he was acting deputy principal director of the Center for Global Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. He was recently included on Time's list of the most influential people of 2021.
Dr. John Ward

Dr. John Ward

Dr. John Ward created and directs the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination of the Task Force for Global Health. Previously, over a 13-year tenure, Ward directed the U.S. CDC division of viral hepatitis with responsibilities for viral hepatitis surveillance, prevention, and research. At the national level, Ward developed recommendations for hepatitis A and hepatitis B vaccination, hepatitis B and hepatitis C screening, and authored the first action plan for viral hepatitis prevention.
Dr. Jose Maya

Dr. Jose Maya

Dr. Jose Maya is a plastic surgeon from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and president of Centro SUMA, a comprehensive care center for patients born with cleft. He specialized in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Mexico’s General Hospital; worked at the children’s hospital of Tacubaya, treating burned patients and children born with cleft, and at the cleft clinic of the ABC Medical Center. He was a professor at UNAM’s Medical School as well as at the Nursing School at The American British Cowdray Hospital. He has been a Smile Train partner since 2012.

Dr. Joseph “Joe” Bresee

Dr. Joseph “Joe” Bresee

Dr. Joseph Bresee serves as the director of the respiratory virus prevention programs at The Task Force for Global Health. The programs work towards increasing equitable access to life-saving vaccines such as influenza and COVID vaccines in low- and middle-income countries, and include the Partnership for International Vaccine Initiatives, CoVIP, the CoVID-19 Vaccine Implementation Program, SONAR (Strengthening Outbreak Notification and Response), and the Global Funders Consortium for Universal Influenza Vaccine Development. He has more than thirty years of experience working in influenza and vaccines, having started his public health career at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Dr. Julitta Onabanjo

Dr. Julitta Onabanjo

Dr. Julitta Onabanjo is the director of the technical division of the UNFPA headquarters. Dr. Julitta took up this position in August 2021, bringing to the role her over 24 years of experience. Prior to her current position, Julitta was director of UNFPA's East and Southern Africa region, where her leadership contributed immensely to resource mobilization efforts, partnership development, and strengthening with regional groups, aligning the countries of the region behind a common African position on ICPD25.
