John McArthur

John W. McArthur is the CEO of Millennium Promise, a leading international nonprofit organization solely committed to supporting the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. In this capacity he oversees the Millennium Villages project, which supports integrated social and business development services for more than 400,000 people in rural communities across 10 countries in Africa. John is also a research associate at the Earth Institute at Columbia University, where he previously served as policy director, and teaches at Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs. Previously, John served as deputy director and manager of the U.N. Millennium Project, shepherding the report "Investing in Development: A Practical Plan to Achieve the Millennium Development Goals."

John Mundy leads One Acre Fund’s partnerships globally, focusing on efforts to connect farmers with climate finance and technology. He was previously strategy director for the World Food Programme’s Farm to Market Alliance and founding director of the Digital Climate Smart Agriculture practice for Mercy Corps AgriFin. John is a board adviser for Producers Direct, and in 2015 he was awarded an Acumen Global Fellowship.

In addition to being an author, John Norris has served in a number of senior roles in government, international institutions, and nonprofits. He currently works at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation – although the views expressed here are entirely his own.

He believes strongly that the global safe drinking water, sanitation, and hygiene crisis is more solvable than it is difficult.

John previously served as Oxfam International’s interim global programmes director. Prior to that, he was chief of impact at Oxfam Great Britain and CARE International UK’s programme and policy director.

John Rendel is the founder and CEO at Promoting Equality in African Schools, a rapidly growing and multiple award-winning social enterprise that widens access to secondary education in Africa. Rendel studied philosophy, politics, and economics at Oxford University, where he was picked out as “One to Watch” by FreshMinds. Rendel won the Teach First Ambassador Award and an UnLtd Social Enterprise Award, and he became a member of the Courvoisier Future 500 and the Rockefeller Top One Hundred Next Century Innovators. He is winner of the Best International Aid & Development award, overall winner at the 2013 Charity Awards, and joint winner of a 2013 WISE Award.
