Member of PEPFAR Scientific Advisory Board and International AIDS Society Governing Council and president of the TB Alliance Stakeholder Association.

M. Mercedes Stickler

M. Mercedes Stickler

M. Mercedes Stickler is the senior land governance and evaluation specialist at the U.S. Agency for International Development. She oversees USAID's portfolio of land tenure impact evaluations and related research and provides technical assistance on issues related to land tenure, climate-smart agriculture, and natural resources management. Ms. Stickler is the co-author of a landmark World Bank book on large-scale land acquisition and has authored numerous papers on land issues in sub-Saharan Africa.

Mo Ibrahim

Mo Ibrahim is the founder and chair of the Mo Ibrahim Foundation, established in 2006 to support good governance and exceptional leadership in Africa. During his distinguished business career, he founded Celtel International, one of Africa’s leading mobile telephone companies, and served as founding chairman of Satya Capital Limited, an investment fund focused on Africa. In 2008, TIME magazine named Ibrahim, who was born in Sudan, one of the 100 most influential people in the world.

Moffat Nyirenda

Moffat Nyirenda is a diabetologist, endocrinologist and professor of Medicine (Global Non-Communicable Diseases) at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, and director of the Malawi Epidemiology and Intervention Research Unit. He has a particular research interest in capacity building in Africa, and leads the Southern Africa Consortium for Research Excellence, funded through the Wellcome Trust’s African Institutions Initiative.

Mohammad Naciri

Mohammad Naciri

Mohammad Naciri is the regional director of UN Women for Asia and the Pacific and representative in Thailand. From 2015 to 2018, he was the regional director of UN Women in the Arab states. Prior to joining UN Women, he was the deputy country director of UNDP in Yemen, where he supported the country in the formulation of its gender strategy and the gender-responsive budgeting process.

He is a director at several social enterprises: The Innovation, helping social change-makers strengthen their mindsets toward leadership, innovation, and anti-racism; WorkFA, enabling disabled employees to flourish in the workplace; and Aid Works, providing project support and learning services.

Mohammed Omer Mukhier-Abuzein

Mohammed Omer Mukhier-Abuzein is the regional director for Africa at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. He is a seasoned humanitarian at a global level and has authored other opinion pieces on the humanitarian context in Africa. He has held leadership roles in IFRC offices in Iran, Kenya, Pakistan, and Geneva.
