In 2014, Richard founded Project Everyone to help launch and promote the U.N.’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development. In 2016, Richard was appointed as a U.N. SDG advocate and in 2017 he was awarded the Cannes LionHeart Award for his charity and campaigning work.

As an advocacy associate for the Primary Health Care Initiative and a Global Health Corps fellow at Population Action International, he is responsible for supporting the director of the PHC Initiative and PAI’s research associate and communications team; and fulfilling an advocacy and communications role supporting all aspects of the development and implementation of the advocacy strategy to strengthen PHC systems for universal health coverage globally.

Richard Francis is global head of Sandoz, the generic drugs division of Novartis. He is a member of the Swiss pharmaceutical company's executive committee. He joined Sandoz after a 13-year career in U.S. biotechnology firm Biogen Idec, where he led the development of several drugs to treat multiple sclerosis. Prior to that, Francis worked for Sanofi in the United Kingdom.
