Begoña Lasagabaster

Begoña Lasagabaster is acting head of U.N. Women's policy division, prior to which she was the chief of the leadership and governance section. With over 20 years of professional experience, she was a member of the Spanish parliament for 12 years and later on the European Parliament, serving on several of its committees. Lasagabaster has helped establish more than 150 laws in areas of women's rights, gender equality law, elimination of violence against women, international development and cooperation, justice, and economic and social rights.

Bekele Geleta has been the secretary-general of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies since July 2008. Bekele has held various positions within the Red Cross, from serving as secretary-general for the Ethiopian Red Cross to leading IFRC’s delegation in Southeast Asia. He was general manager of international operations at the Canadian Red Cross prior to his current appointment.

Knapen has been supervisory director at Goede Doelen N.V. and a member of the executive committee of Vereniging AEGON, the supervisory board of the KRO broadcasting company and the Advisory Council on International Affairs.

Ben Leo is a senior fellow at the Center for Global Development and director of the Rethinking U.S. Development Policy initiative. Leo’s research primarily focuses on the rapidly changing development finance environment, with particular emphasis on private capital flows, infrastructure and debt dynamics. Prior to CGD, Leo served as a facilitator and technical expert in secession negotiations between Sudan and South Sudan for the African Union, and as the director and presidential adviser for African affairs at the White House.
