Claire Somerville

Dr. Claire Somerville is currently the executive director of the Gender Centre at the Graduate of Institute of International and Development Studies, an APSIA member since 2001. An applied medical anthropologist by training, she continues to pursue research in global health, systems innovation and technology; teach various courses and supervise students in the Development & International Studies M.A. programs including applied research and qualitative methods, and also delivers modules in executive education courses.

Claire has been collaborating on agricultural initiatives with local and international partners to improve food security for farmers and farm families in developing countries for three decades. A creative strategist, she provides leadership to Fintrac's organizational development, advises staff and clients on best practices to achieve sustainable impact, and advocates for increasing women's participation in the agribusiness sector worldwide.

Claire Whitney

Claire Whitney is a licensed clinical social worker and humanitarian worker specialized in the assessment of and response to the mental health and psychosocial impacts of war, conflict, human rights abuses, forced displacement, and the refugee experience in challenging humanitarian contexts. She most recently has been working on the humanitarian response in Greece for refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants with International Medical Corps.

Clare Clifton

Clare Clifton is the inclusive market development project manager at Christian Aid, where she helps to embed a market systems approach across 10 countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Clare has spent the past decade exploring the role of the private sector in development, including a stint in Rwanda working for a small enterprise, Cards from Africa. She holds an M.A. in international development with a focus on enterprise development and NGO/private sector engagement.

Clare Coffey is program policy manager for ActionAid U.K., responsible for overseeing research and policy analysis on a range of issues, including aid, the private sector and land. Before joining ActionAid U.K., she was NGO advisor for Germany development firm GIZ and volunteering giant VSO.

Clare Shakya is the global managing director for the Tackling Climate Change initiative at The Nature Conservancy. She led the integration of climate change thinking into the United Kingdom's development interventions in Asia and Africa and then created initiatives to improve access and delivery of climate finance as the International Institute for Environment and Development’s climate director.
