The World Bank's latest replenishment of its fund for low-income countries succeeded, even surviving the Trump administration and the Department of Government Efficiency budget cuts that hit so many other U.S.-funded programs worldwide earlier this year.
For the bank’s No. 2, continued support for the fund — the International Development Association — will depend on transparency, an orientation toward outcomes, and the willingness to listen.
“I think the fact that there is the call for more accountability, there is the call for outcome orientation, I think is fair,” Axel van Trotsenburg, the bank’s senior managing director, said during a conversation at the Devex Impact House on Wednesday on the sidelines of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund annual meetings.
