    Can philanthropy save global health?

    Maybe not, but many are trying to think through how a time of global aid chaos can lead to opportunity in the future.

    Can philanthropy save global health?

    Most agree: Definitely not. And in fact, experts feel the financing gap is only going to grow as the years go on. So, where does that leave philanthropy — and what role should foundations be playing, now and in the future?

    “We are going to see a dramatic reduction in development assistance for health. It’s unfortunate. It will have real consequences, and I don’t want any of us to minimize that,” said Anil Soni, the chief executive officer of the WHO Foundation, speaking at a Devex event on the sidelines of the World Health Assembly. “Mitigating harm in the short term by keeping the lights on on the most critical programs, yes, philanthropy can help.
