Canadian officials, among others, have slammed Iran’s election to the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Canada “will use Iran’s membership on this body to take the Iranian authorities to task for their systemic human rights violations,” Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon said in a statement.

Canada, meanwhile, welcomed the United Nations Security’s decision to extend the U.N. mission in Sudan until April 30, 2011.
