    European Commissioner for Development Andris Piebalgs will launch next month a consultation on overhauling the European Consensus on Development, a policy statement that outlines the European Union’s commitment to eradicate global poverty.

    Piebalgs said his vision for the modernization of the EU policy on global development focuses on increasing leverage of aid, governance and budget support, promoting proactive policy coherence for development, consolidating the domestic private sector, fostering sustainable development, and improving European coordination.
