    Countries agree to amend global health security rules

    The work was challenging, with negotiations going on after midnight on Friday. But member states proved it was also not impossible. Now, countries have to decide whether to accept the amendments or reject them.

    Despite failing to reach consensus on a pandemic treaty, which has now been delayed by another year, the World Health Assembly concluded on Saturday by adopting a new package of amendments to the International Health Regulations, or IHR. This legally binding instrument defines the rights and obligations of countries during public health emergencies.
