Donors to Build Yemeni Capacity Before Disbursing Aid

By Ma. Rizza Leonzon // 01 March 2010

Donors have agreed they need to work together to boost the capacity of Yemen to absorb and effectively utilize aid. The resolution came during a two-day closed-door meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Agence France-Presse reports.

“The main problem is capacity,” according to Abdul Aziz al-Uwaisheg, GCC director general for international economic relations.

“We try to identify the blockages” to proposed projects, he added.

Only 58 percent of the USD5.7 billion aid for Yemen has so far been disbursed.
