President Rafael Correa is poised to score a victory in a referendum that will decide the fate of 10 proposals he says will modernize Ecuador but which critics have slammed as an attempt by the president to strengthen his power and restrict judicial independence. The country’s population will vote May 7 on whether to endorse or reject the proposals, Reuters says.
