The International Monetary Fund elected Egyptian Finance Minister Youssef Boutros Ghali as the fund’s international monetary and financial committee chief. Boutros Ghali succeeds former Italian Economy and Finance Minister Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa. The nephew of former U.N. Secretary-General Boutros Boutros Ghali will preside over his first committee meeting on Oct. 11, which will focus on the current global financial turmoil. (AP)
