Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held separate meetings with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell in Cairo July 17. Egypt is trying to broker direct peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians but Abbas said no direct negotiations will happen unless Israel agrees to recognize its 1967 frontier as basis for establishing the borders of a future Palestinian state, the Associated Press reports.
