Elderly at Most Risk in Quake-Hit Haiti

Older people are now by far the most vulnerable group in earthquake-ravaged Haiti, a United Nations report revealed. Haiti’s elderly have been overlooked in relief operations because they are less mobile and less vocal in requesting food and water, U.N. officials were cited by The New York Times as explaining. About 7 percent or 84,000 of the 1.2 million Haitians displaced by the earthquake are above 60 years old, according to a preliminary census by an aid organization.
