
The European Union is seeking inputs of various stakeholders on the future of the bloc’s budget support to developing nations.
The European Commission launched Tuesday (Oct. 19) a public consultation, which it said aims “to draw lessons from more than a decade of providing budget support.” The consultation will run through Dec. 31.
Budget support entails the direct transfer of aid to budgets of partner nations to finance key government functions.
The bloc published a green paper on the future of EU budget support to poor nations. The paper has raised questions as to which countries should receive budget support, how much they should receive, and how best to design and implement budget support programs.

From 2003 to 2009, the bloc committed more than euro13 billion (USD17 billion) in budget support, or about a quarter of its total aid commitments made in this period.
