FEATURED EVENT
Coffee & Conflict: Flashtalk & Networking Mixer
Aug. 3
Barcelona, Spain
Join Devex, SHIFT: Social Impact Solutions, and Worldreader for a monthly international development networking event where this month we'll focus on “Coffee and Conflict.”
Some of the best coffee in the world comes from countries that are still in, or have recently emerged from, decades of conflict. These countries face daunting challenges to transition from a conflict economy to a formal economy able to integrate both displaced populations and demobilized fighters.
Coffee offers countries and communities a way to support this transition and help poor farmers rebuild homes and communities’ shattered by violence.
Frank Smith, director of strategy, advocacy and development at SHIFT, and Angel Mario Martinez Garcia, executive director of the Progreso Foundation, will consider some of the challenges and opportunities the coffee industry can offer conflict and post-conflict countries, drawing on personal experience in the field, as well as their professional engagement on the issue.
