    France has pledged to help Mauritania in persuading international donors to unlock development funds that were suspended in 2008 following a coup staged by the country's current president,

    report. French President Nicolas Sarkozy also offered the country a bilateral agreement that would convert USD25.30 million of Mauritania's total debt to investments in education, water, health and other sectors.
