The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation created a new position to shift more focus to enhancing relations with governments, and named former World Bank officer Geoff Lamb to sit as the group’s first managing director of public policy. The job underscores the need to work with governments on areas of public health, agriculture and finance – sectors requiring close contact with government officials and their respective agencies. Lamb previously served as the World Bank’s vice-president handling debt issues of poor countries and became one of the foundation’s senior advisers in 2006.
