Kenya will miss out on some USD270 million in funding from the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria, Inter Press Service reports. The fund turned down Kenya’s funding request due to the existence of two ministries of health and their confusing roles in managing donor funding.
“Already due to the confusion and competition between the two ministries on who should control the money, procurement of essential drugs for public hospitals has not been done leading to shortages,” said James Kamau, coordinator of the Kenya Treatment Access Movement.
Kenya, in its pitch, also did not clearly identify how its proposed health projects will be implemented.
