    Herbicides: Cheaper Than Hand Weeding and Fertilizers

    Many African farmers are concerned about the cost of herbicides. According to Leonard Gianessi, weed control through herbicides only comes to $5 per hectare per day.

    Many African farmers are concerned about the cost of herbicides. According to Leonard Gianessi, weed control through herbicides only comes to $5 per hectare per day. This is just a third of the expense for hand weeding and still much less expensive than fertilizers, says the director of CropLife Foundation's Crop Protection Research Institute.
