    How to build expertise in sexual health and reproductive rights

    In a context of pushback and politics, how can professionals in the sexual health and reproductive rights space best build their expertise? Devex asked the experts.

    In a world where abortion can be criminalized, where some unmarried women can’t access contraception, and when people who are menstruating may be banished from a community, sexual health and reproductive rights, or SRHR, professionals need a unique set of skills.

    Those working in cross-cutting areas — such as climate, migration, water, or infrastructure — require a certain level of knowledge too, experts tell Devex.

    “We need sectors like climate change, we need people coming from tech, we need advocates, we need governments to be on our side. We need various people to help this agenda,” Dr. Samukeliso Dube, executive director of Family Planning 2030, told Devex on the sidelines of the Women Deliver conference in Kigali, Rwanda. “SRHR can never make progress in isolation.”
