How to get a job with ARS Progetti

If you are an expert in cultural conservation, or perhaps capacity building, ARS Progetti might be what you are looking for to share your knowledge and professional skills.

    By Alessia Chiocchetti // 25 March 2008
If you are an expert in cultural conservation, or perhaps capacity building, ARS Progetti might be what you are looking for to share your knowledge and professional skills. ARS Progetti is one of Italy’s top consulting firms. It focuses on the areas of culture, architecture, infrastructure and environment, and institutional strengthening, governance and civil society. The company, said Serena Bove, a project officer at ARS Progetti, selects candidates in accordance with the terms of reference of its clients, including EuropeAid, the United Nations Development Program and the World Bank. Work experience represents the main criterion for selection, followed by requirements such as nationality (European Development Fund projects, for instance, require only European citizens) or specific languages. Once a vacancy is published, ARS Progetti looks for the ideal candidate based on CVs that professionals submit for open positions or throughout its database. The company says it has a “comprehensive and well-structured” database of 10,000 experts covering various fields, languages and geographical regions. Then, project officers contact the short-listed experts to check their availability. This process must be very fast, and usually lasts no longer than two weeks. Contracts vary depending on the project. For instance, European Commission framework contracts last between two and 10 months. while others can last up to five years. Generally, for a junior position, the expert must have at least five years of working experience after university graduation, a European Commission requirement that must be respected. It is preferable that candidates have working experience in foreign countries, especially developing ones. It would also be best to have working experience with international donors. English, Spanish and French are always required; knowledge of Arabic, Chinese, Russian and other relevant languages would be an advantage. Bove highlights the importance of presenting a clear and precise CV, which should contain all the necessary information and contact details. Read more career advice articles.
