Indroyono Soesilo is Indonesia’s nominee to succeed Jacques Diouf as director-general of the Food and Agriculture Organization.
FAO is currently accepting nominations for its top post and will continue to do so through the end of January 2011. The election will take place in June of the same year.
Foreign ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah told The Jakarta Post that Indonesia has approached neighboring states to get their backing for the natural resources scientist’s candidacy.
“We have long conveyed our plans to nominate a candidate for FAO director-general to ministers from other countries on several occasions,” Faizasyah said.
Indroyono is senior deputy minister at the Coordinating Ministry for Public Welfare, which synchronizes the activities and programs of 17 Indonesian ministries and agencies focusing on sustainable development, education and poverty, food and nutrition, women and children, and the environment.
