An Israeli delegation is heading to U.S. to hold talks on the latter?s financial contribution to Israel?s planned evacuation of thousands of Jewish settlers from the Gaza Strip. An insider from the office of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon refused to state an exact figure for Washington?s contribution but disclosed that the sum would come to "several hundreds of millions of dollars." The local Yediot Aharonot newspaper earlier reported that Israel will ask for $500 million to bankroll the summer operation. According to the source, the Gaza disengagement will need $1.75 billion, which will pay for the cost of relocation of and compensation for the evicted people.
