Six Italian men were shot dead in the center of Duisburg in western Germany’s Ruhr industrial area in what Italian officials say is part of a mafia war. “It’s an episode of a fight between crime families,” Italian Interior Minister Giuliano Amato told reporters at a press conference in Rome. One of the dead was in Germany looking to procure weapons, Amato said. Italian Deputy Interior Minister Marco Minniti described the incident as “unprecedented” and “worrisome.” The ‘Ndrangheta have never fought their battles outside of Italy, he said. (Bloomberg)
