The Japanese government will funnel USD29 million through reconstruction efforts in Afghanistan. Japanese ambassador to Afghanistan Hideo Sato and deputy to Afghan Foreign Ministry Mohammad Kabir Farahi signed the agreement, under which the funds will be used to buttress the economic structure and poverty alleviation projects in the war-ravaged state. Japan is the second largest donor to Afghanistan after the U.S., having extended a total of over USD1 billion to the the troubled country in the last six years.
