Zachary Muburi-Muita, Kenya’s permanent representative to the United Nations in New York, will be the first to lead the newly established U.N. Office to the African Union.
The office was formed in early 2010 to strengthen ties between the two international organizations. Its headquarters is in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, where the AU center of operations is also located.
Muburi-Muita’s role is to build new and reinforce existing U.N. relationships with the AU and other subregional groups.
Prior to becoming Kenya’s U.N. representative since 2006, Muburi-Muita served in various diplomatic, civil-military and managerial capacities for his country for 24 years.
