Omani Sultan Qaboos donated $50 million towards efforts to help Lebanon recover from the devastation caused by Israeli attacks. According to Omani Information Minister Ghazi Aridi, the grant followed a pledge by Sultan Qaboos to set up a Lebanese-Omani arts center in Beirut, which he made prior to the July-August onslaught by Israel. Aridi said Solidere, the company charged with rebuilding the downtown area, “pledged to grant a piece of land for this civilized project in the heart of Beirut.”
