    Madagascar

    By Brian Kenety // 18 September 2009

Madagascan police arrested Andrianantoandro Raharinaivo, a leading member of ousted president Marc Ravalomanana's party, accusing him of breaching the peace. "It is the second time that Raharinaivo has been arrested," Lala Rakotonirina, head of communications for Madagascar's national police force, said in a phone interview from the capital, Antananarivo. "I cannot yet confirm the date of his trial." His arrest comes after a decision by the Indian Ocean island nation's three main opposition parties to unite formally to oppose the government of self-appointed President Andry Rajoelina.
