The government of Mali and some international agencies do not have enough funds to assist the more than 600,000 in need of food in several parts of the country, IRIN says. Mali’s government requires an additional USD59 million, on top of the USD69 million already allocated for the crisis, before it can launch its response, IRIN quotes the country’s food security commissioner as saying.
International aid agency Oxfam said it needs USD4.5 million to support its food distribution plans for some of the most-affected people in the Gao region in northeastern Mali.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross and UNICEF said they both have sufficient funds to support their operations.
