Lenders enjoined Zambia to continue repaying its foreign debts regardless of the G8 debt relief package announced last month. Finance and Economic Development Minister Ng'andu Magande revealed that his country has been told "to be up to date with [its] debt servicing until the IMF and World Bank boards approve debt cancellation modalities." The multilateral agencies, according to Magande, vowed to consider providing more grants to Zambia as a reward for the continued debt servicing while other creditors promised to reimburse the country once the boards of both funding agencies finalize the debt relief mechanisms.
