Tokyo, Japan, and Pune, India — The Asian Development Bank Institute is repositioning itself as a climate-focused think tank to align with its parent organization's climate focus and address pressing environmental challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.
This strategic shift comes as the Tokyo-based think tank aims to encourage policymakers and researchers to prioritize climate issues in their work. With a diverse team of researchers from countries such as India, Bhutan, the Philippines, and Japan, ADBI is leveraging its position as a subsidiary of the Asian Development Bank to influence climate policy and research across the region.
Its research priorities have so far been focused on low- and middle-income countries in the Asia-Pacific region, but for the past year that has been undergoing a change. ADBI Dean Tetsushi Sonobe told Devex that the goal now is to become a “climate think tank” for Asia and the Pacific region.
