Prince William announces finalists for the £1M Earthshot Prize

A group of 15 finalists for the Earthshot Prize gathered on the fringes of the United Nations General Assembly to hear a message from the Prince of Wales.

    By Elissa Miolene // 25 September 2024

For over 100 years, New York City’s Plaza Hotel has opened its doors to billionaires, millionaires, and luminaries from across the world. On Tuesday, the plaza’s halls were packed with stardust once again — along with the newest 15 finalists of the £1 million Earthshot Prize, an award first launched by Prince William in 2020.

The prince offered praise to the finalists in a video message, which was shared at the Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.

“Each of their solutions has proven, with evidence, that if scaled or replicated, they will be transformative for the future of our planet,” he said.
