Dmitri Medvedev has been sworn in as the new president of Russia. He took the oath of office in the Kremlin with his hand on the constitution. In his inaugural speech, he said his top priority was to bring “greater civil and economic freedom to Russians and make Russia one of the greatest countries in the world.” The 42-year-old is former president Vladimir Putin’s protege and one of his first tasks as president will be to nominate Putin as prime minister. Parliament is expected to confirm Putin’s nomination on May 8. (Radio Netherlands)
